with seedling soil and the basement with pink lights, heat pads, and freshly sown seeds of hardy annuals. I bargain with my family for the soil blocker and trays to stay on the countertop, so that they are there to set a tray of seeds if I have a few minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Starting hardy annual flowers from seed is a great way to get the variety of plants I need (want?) for a good price -and- they grow outside in-ground through the winter!\u00a0 Hardy annuals are annual plants that can withstand cold temperatures and frost, making them ideal for overwintering or setting out before their last frost date early in the spring.\u00a0 Here are some tips for starting hardy annuals from seed:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-125 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thousandsunnyfarm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/photo_2022-09-26_15-42-29-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thousandsunnyfarm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/photo_2022-09-26_15-42-29-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.thousandsunnyfarm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/photo_2022-09-26_15-42-29-600x800.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.thousandsunnyfarm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/photo_2022-09-26_15-42-29-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thousandsunnyfarm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/photo_2022-09-26_15-42-29.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><span style=\"background-color: transparent; color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">Choose<\/span>\u00a0the right seeds: Look for hardy annuals that can be planted in &#8220;early spring,&#8221; often noted on the seed packet just like that, such as calendula, pansy, and sweet alyssum.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare the soil: Work the soil in your garden bed before winter.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t wait till spring when the ground is cold and muddy.\u00a0 It won&#8217;t dry out enough to be prepped before your last average frost. Just get it done in the fall.
